Roller Screw versus Ball Screw Actuators
In the ever-evolving field of engineering, roller screw technology has become a significant force in linear electric actuator motion control....

Estun is manufacturer of cost effective servo drives, possible used in combination with Trio motion controllers. As of January 1, 2016 ATB Automation is representative of Estun in the Benelux.
Estun Automation, founded in 1993, Nanjing China, is a fast growing company with more than 800 employees. The products are developed and manufacturedi n-house . ATB Automation is more than two years in contact with Estun, partly because the systems are used worldwide with the motion controllers Trio Motion Technology, also represented by ATB Automation. In 2015 the control specialist ATB Automation have realised several tests and several Estun systems have been installed successful at customers in the Benelux.
In various markets in Benelux exists the need for low-cost compact servo systems besides the renowned European brands. Examples of these markets are agriculture and horticulture, woodworking machinery, lab pick-and-place or handling systems. The Estun servo drives are inexpensive because of a critical look at the cost of components. For example use of incremental encoders and absolute encoders with battery. In this way, Estun can position themselves in these markets, which in general are different from the market with high demands on dynamics, accuracy or flexibility. With the Stöber servo drives ATB Automation is active for decades in these markets with high demands. Even in these markets ATB Automation sees its market share with Stöber growing, along with the technical needs. Estun is for ATB Automation an expansion to new markets in addition to the Stöber servo drives.
The program Estun servo systemes consists of a wide range of servo motors with power outputs of 50 W with square flange 40 mm to 22 kW with a flange of 280 mm.
The motors are available with incremental encoders or 17-bit absolute encoders with battery.
Estun delivers stand-alone drives with different bus systems and multi-axis drives with control for two or three servo motors in a single housing.
Very interesting for the European market is the ProNet-E-EC Servo Controller with EtherCAT.
This controller is suitable for Drive Control and multi-axis synchronous control (CiA402):
- Homing Mode
- Profile Position Mode
- Interpolated Position Mode
- Profile Velocity Mode
- Cyclic Synchronous Position Mode
The ProNet-M is a rather simple stand-alone controller for position, speed or torque control via CANopen, pulse-direction signal or digital / analog I / O.
The ETS series is a multi-axis servo drive for two or three servomotors of each 1,0 kW. All this in a single housing of only 220 x 90 x 200 mm (HxWxD).
Control via CANopen or pulse-direction signal.
The Estun servo drives can be controlled from all controllers with EtherCAT, CANopen or pulsen- direction signal. With the motion controllers of Trio Motion Technology, ATB Automation is able to provide complete solutions including motion software, for example linear or circular interpolation, synchronous operation, CAM profiles, such as flying saw. These controllers can be upgraded with digital and analog I / O and touch screens.
EtherCAT based solution:
The Trio MC4N-ECAT is a compact motion controller with up to 32 axes EtherCAT suitable for Estun ProNet-E-EC servo controller
Pulse and direction based solution:
The Trio MC403 or MC405 is a motion controller with pulse-direction communication for the Estun ETS series multiaxis controller.
Complete systems with mechanical drive components
ATB Automation supplies the Estun servomotors also with the Stöber low-cost planetary gearboxes from the Stöber PE series, Exlar mechanical roller screw actuators and HSB linear drive units or XYZ systems.
