Roller Screw versus Ball Screw Actuators
In the ever-evolving field of engineering, roller screw technology has become a significant force in linear electric actuator motion control....
Trio PC-MCAT-2 is an innovative 'Motion + IPC solution'. A range of Intel processors (Intel Celeron, core i3, core i5 or core i7) is used to control both a powerful motion controller and a compact IPC on which user applications can run under Windows. A rugged, finned metal case houses the controller and provides adequate cooling.
PC-MCAT-2 is especially suitable when a machine needs the software and hardware functions of a PC, combined with a powerful 64-axis motion coordinator.
PC-MCAT-2 supports a wide range of communication ports including Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbit), USB (3.0 and 2.0), COM ports (RS232 and RS485) and HDMI for connectivity to PC peripherals. In addition to the communication ports, PC-MCAT-2 has 8 binary inputs and 8 binary outputs.
Improving productivity and performance
PC-MCAT-2 is an advantage for machine builders who need to deploy Windows-based machine control applications and establish IoT connectivity, in addition to powerful servo or robot motion control. By combining PC-MCAT-2 with Trio's controllers, servo drives and motors, I/O, HMI and SCARA robots, machine builders get an automation solution that delivers the highest performance motion control.
User programs can be written in Trio's established multi-tasking programming language Motion-iX or in the industry standard IEC61131-3 using the powerful Motion Perfect application development software. Alternatively, applications can be written and run on Windows (such as VisualBasic, C#, Python, Labview etc.) and use a shared memory API to communicate with Trio's advanced motion core, allowing maximum flexibility in application development.
Supporting PC peripherals and off-the-shelf Windows applications alongside Trio's Motion-iX provides a powerful, flexible solution for applications requiring specific external devices (e.g. vision applications).
Flexslice IO Expension
Trio's Flexslice input/output modules provide a robust, fast and flexible solution for both motion control and general automation. EtherCAT cycle times up to 125μsec are supported and the bus coupler uses EBUS technology to bring all sub-modules onto the EtherCAT network without sacrificing performance.

ATB Automation supplies motion controllers from Trio Motion Technology and Leadshine. The Trio motion controllers can also be easily extended with various I / O and control panels so that the controller also can operate as stand-alone machine controller .
