I recently attended a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the electromechanical ADE actuators that we supply during the renovation of the Ooigem lock. For this I traveled with my colleague Rico Godfried to the factory of ADE-werk in Offenburg. But what happens with a FAT? And why is this so valuable to our customers? I'll be happy to explain it to you.
During a Factory Acceptance Test or FAT, the product is tested and checked in the presence of our customer to verify that it meets the specifications. This happens regularly with ADE-Werk actuators, because it is 100% important for these types of actuators and the applications where they are used that commissioning runs quickly, smoothly and perfectly.
After this detailed check of the operation, the client agrees and the products can leave the factory. A factory acceptance is not mandatory, but is carried out at the request of our customers.
The Factory Acceptance Test takes place at the supplier's factory in the presence of the customer. The ADE actuator is checked against its predetermined specifications.

For the delivery of the actuators for Sluis Ooigem, a FAT took place recently at ADE-Werk. Our client, Fa Vandezande, was present.
These ADE actuators must be able to open and close the lock gates and bypass sewers. For this it is important that the required tensile and compressive force is actually achieved. This was tested on a test bench. This showed that these forces were met.
This was also an excellent opportunity for our client to ask questions about the ADE actuators. This way they can optimally prepare for the installation of the actuators.
A FAT purchase is always of great value, both for the customer and for us. By thoroughly testing everything in advance, we ensure that the final installation of the actuators is much faster.
This means pure profit, especially for large projects: in both time and money.
The Ooigem lock is located in the Roeselare-Leie canal (BE), an important waterway connection for the companies behind it.
The lock was built in the early 1970s and is now due for modernization. For this purpose, both the structural and the electromechanical equipment are addressed.
ATB Automation supplies the actuators for the lock gates and bypass sewers, on behalf of Fa Vandezande from Diksmuide (BE). Vandezande is responsible for the mechanical engineering part of the lock renovation. The main client of the project is De Vlaamse Waterweg nv. The delivery took place on September 1, 2023 and shipping traffic resumed.
